Toy Story, 1 & 2

On one hand, there is no dearth of entrepreneurs willing to take risks and offer new products and services.

Toy Libraries? Whoever heard of them? You’ll be surprised to know that they are plenty of them in Bangalore city. The seeds of this business model wafted from up north – Delhi, Mumbai & Pune, where they are popular too.

Toy libraries are like any other libraries that rent goods for a particular time period. The range of toys available here varies from indoor sets like puzzles, chess, checkers, a child laptop or snakes and ladder to outdoor games like basketball, riders and swings.

The TOI has this report today on this new trend.

On the other hand, the scourge of poor planning & execution, wastage of public money & lack of accountability continues to plague us.

The Deccan Herald of yesterday reports about a project gone completely, utterly wrong:

Five years after laying foundation stone for a Rs 95-lakh Central library in HRBR Layout, Second Block, the partially built structure is in a shambles.

To add insult to injury, another 2 crores has been requested by the contractors to help finish the building.

What are the odds that this library will ever see the light of day? Hmmm. Your guess is as good as ours. If you need surprises, though, we recommend investing in a toy jack-in-the-box!
