Yesterday we posted news about a procession being organised by the Department of Public Libraries to raise awareness about books / libraries.
Today, we were happy to come across this news (Deccan Herald, Aug 10. 2010) on a sweeping change proposed:
As many as 225 Government high schools in the State will soon get libraries wherein the main stakeholders – students, will have a major say in designing its concept and content.
This joint initiative of the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) and Karnataka Knowledge Commission (KKC), the two bodies will work as one to “open libraries” replete with the latest reference books, dictionaries, atlas, autobiographies, biographies, fiction and non-fiction both in Kannada & English.
Given that scams, boycotts, murders are making headlines, the above news seems refreshing in its ideation and hopefully, execution!
