6 Book-to-Film Adaptations to Look Forward This Year!

Reading is all well and done but all of us dream of seeing our favourite characters portrayed on-screen. Nothing beats the feeling of being able to give a face to the characters we grow to love as we progress while reading novels every day. Fortunately for us, some of the novels on our Favorite List are going to be adapted on-screen for us this year.


Wonder – April 7th

Based on the novel of the same name by R. J. Palacio, Wonder is centred on the life of a boy who has facial deformities. The story revolves around the boy’s relationship with his family and his parents and he learn from each other and grow. Playing the lead role in this film is Jacob Tremblay who is better known for his performance in ‘Room’.


The Lost City of Z – April 21st

The story is set in the 1920s, where explorer Percy Fawcett disappears on one of his many trips to the Amazon in search of a civilization that has been considered lost since ages. Get set to see Charlie Hunnam play the lead role in this on-screen adaptation of The Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon by David Grann.


The Circle – April 28th

The Circle by Dave Eggers starts off with a mega-start up mogul and one of his employees in a dystopian story of privacy, its need in life and the consequences of diminishing its presence. The star cast of this film boasts of biggies like Emma Watson and Tom Hanks as the main leads.


Everything, Everything – May 19th

Maddy Whittie, a normal girl, except that she is allergic to everything just as the title suggests. However, Maddy finally has a reason to leave the confines of her home despite her illness after a new neighbour moves in. Watch Amandla Stenberg in the lead in this much awaited adaptation of the book Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon.


The Dark Tower – July 28th

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know about Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series. This is an adaptation just waiting to happen like every other Stephen King novel. Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey have been chosen to star in this sequel to the sci-fi Western series by Stephen King.



The Mountain Between Us – October 20th

Starring opposite Kate Winslet, Idris Elba will star in another major book adaptation this year about a pair marooned on a lonely mountain after a plane crash and how they make the best of the situation. Based on a book carrying the same title by Charles Martin, we can’t wait to see both actresses cast together.


Other adaptations this year with unslated release dates include ‘Annihilation’, ‘Thank You for Your Service’ and ‘The Glass Castle’. Here’s to a year filled with our favourite books with our favourite actors on-screen!
